Plain White T's
Every Second Counts

CD (Fearless Records)

I was first introduced to Plain White T’s with their last full length record, “All That We Needed” and was very pleasantly surprised and somewhat shocked at the quality of songs especially given that I haven’t liked anything on fearless in roughly 8 years. Although nothing new, their brand of upbeat pop-punk was catchy and creative, most of their songs solid enough to give them a shot to break the mainstream if they were pushed a little further. So basically I was pretty excited to hear the new material and my expectations were somewhat high. Well I don’t know what happened in the last year but they’ve really gone down the toilet. Plain White T's regressed from their previous glory to whiney cornball emo songs in the vein of midtown and new found glory which has not only been done to death but was annoying the first four thousand times it was done. A few of the songs on here do stand out as being pretty good, but are impossible to get into given the majority of the songs on the EP wern't my cup of tea. I am definitely not the kind of person who thinks a band can never match what they’ve already done, I am always excited for new music and always anticipate good changes but they’ve gone overboard and I find “Every Second Counts” barely listenable.
